Chips from chickpeas were produced in Mersin province to increase the consumption of pulses among children.
Chips from chickpeas were produced in Mersin to popularize the consumption and endearment of pulses with high protein value.
Abdullah Özdemir, Chairman of Turkish National Pulses Council (UBK), said, “We cooperated with Mersin University for the production of chips from chickpeas. We made the first tests in a laboratory environment and produced our chips from chickpeas.”
Abdullah Özdemir noted that pulse products are in demand because of their cheap, healthy and easy-to-preserve nature.
Emphasizing that the products are both nutritious and have high fibre and protein values, Özdemir explained, “Pulses are very useful thanks to their antiviral and immune system-strengthening prebiotic features. We attach importance to the continuation of the interest in pulses during the pandemic period.”
Özdemir added that legumes should be popular with children and that they have started a study for the production of chips from chickpeas with high protein value.
Pointing out that they are in cooperation with Mersin University, Özdemir concluded, “We have cooperated with Mersin University for the production of chips from chickpeas. We made the first trials in the laboratory environment and produced our chips from chickpeas. The products were very good. I can say that the taste is also very good as well as being healthy.”
