“Certified seed is essential for quality crops”
Savaş Akcan, Chairman of Turkey Seed Growers’ Association (TÜRKTOB) said their studies continues on the field of certified seed.
Stating that more than 1 million 135 thousand tonnes of certified seeds were produced last year, Akcan noted, “Our certified seed production target in 2023 is 1.5 million tonnes.”
Drawing attention to the importance of using certified seeds, Akcan explained, “Farmers can increase yield up to 25 percent when they use certified seeds. In addition, the farmer knows how much crop will be taken when planting. Increased support has once again demonstrated the importance of using certified seeds. We are pleased with the rise of support. Certified seed is essential for yield and quality product.”
Emphasizing that the importance of national food sovereignty has grown after the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic, Akcan added, “Farmers can get rid of the concerns brought by the global epidemic by using national seeds.”
