The cereals, pulses, oilseeds and processed products sector exported 6.9 billion dollars in the first 7 months of the year, while the average export unit price per kg surged by 6.5 percent to 1.1 dollars…
Indicating that the sector, whose exports approached 7 billion dollars in the first 7 months of the year, experienced unit price hikes in certain product groups, Nihat Uysallı, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Association (TİM) Grains, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board, assessed the conditions affecting the global commodity market as follows:
“Global agricultural trade is going through an extremely complex process where climatic anomalies, geopolitical tensions and logistical bottlenecks are simultaneously felt. The El Niño weather phenomenon and extreme heat, which are increasing their impact in major producing regions such as the USA, France, Germany and Australia, are lowering harvest expectations, while wheat prices exceeding 7 dollars per bushel are affecting the entire food market. In particular, disruptions in the Sea of Azov and port infrastructure in the Black Sea region, our main raw material supply basin, have significantly slowed down the shipment pace. Although prices in the Black Sea have theoretically decreased, wheat purchases from the region have decreased due to the high freight differences caused by the war risk premium in the Baltic and Romanian ports.”
“It is evident that under these conditions affecting global commodity flows, our food industry is proactively trying to manage operational and logistical risks in raw material lines, leveraging its flexible supply networks and high processing capacity,” Uysallı noted…
