Press release…
With a harvest of 475,000 tonnes and along with 115,000 tonnes of olive oil carried over from last year, Türkiye which ranks second in the world in olive oil production this year, has launched a ‘licensed warehousing for olive oil’ project, in Türkiye’s western province of Balıkesir’s district of Ayvalık, that is unique in the world and the country.

Exports to be increased and price imbalances to be prevented…
Ali Uçar, Chair of the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce, stated that according to data from the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), the country produced 475,000 tonnes of olive oil in the 2024-2025 season.
“We also carried over 115,000 tonnes of olive oil from last season. Türkiye has become the world’s second largest producer of olive oil thanks to its production capacity. We expect to produce 200-250 thousand tons in the 2025-2026 season,” Uçar said.
Pointing out that Türkiye also has significant export power in this sector, Uçar explained, “Our region, the northern Aegean, produces the highest quality extra virgin olive oil, especially in Ayvalık. In order to maintain the brand value of North Aegean olive oil, our rising graph in olive oil and our position in international trade, it is very important to develop and support licensed warehousing activities in olive oil so that the product can be priced healthily, inventoried, and stored in such situations. Currently, there are no licensed warehouses operating in the olive oil sector in the country or worldwide.”

“As a result of this important step taken on behalf of the sector and our country, prices in olive oil will be balanced and significant gains will be achieved in exports. Increasing our exports of branded and packaged products in addition to bulk exports is our most important goal in developing our foreign trade and we are conducting serious efforts to achieve this goal,” Uçar added…
