In Muğla, Türkiye’s leading province in aquaculture and export, sea bream and sea bass fry produced in modern hatcheries are shipped abroad using specially equipped vehicles, ships and cargo planes.
İhsan Bozan, Chair of the Muğla Fish Farmers’ Association and Board Member of Kılıç Holding, stated that Muğla-based companies produce in different regions of Türkiye and play an important role in the development of the sector.
“Türkiye has reached a significant position worldwide in sea bass and sea bream production and that Muğla is the locomotive of the sector in this field,” Bozan said.
Explaining that broodstock are improved and stockpiled in fish fry production, Bozan stated that uninterrupted production is maintained thanks to the developed systems.
Pointing out that they improve and stock the broodstock themselves, Bozan noted, “We are able to collect eggs from broodstock 12 months a year using a method called photoperiod. We turn the eggs into fry and release them into the sea. We export the fry to various countries, primarily Tunisia, Albania, Dubai and Saudi Arabia along with the Dominican Republic, USA and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”
55 Million Euros Worth of Fish Fry Exports…
Bozan underlined that not only are fish fry produced in Muğla province physically exported, but the production expertise is also being utilized abroad; “Turkish companies provide consultancy services to producers in various countries.”
“The amount we earn from fish fry exports is around 55 million euros. This is actually a significant figure. Even though we only supply a very small portion, the reason they buy fry from us is our expertise and experience in this field. We also provide them with consultancy services in terms of production, depending on the situation. Some even transfer our trained personnel,” he added.
“Türkiye’s production and export power in the aquaculture sector is being carried to international markets with the modern facilities and trained workforce in Muğla and the sector will continue to grow in the coming period,” he concluded…
