Ali Hüddoğlu: Our goal is to become the largest supplier of tropical fruits to Europe

August 2026…

Ali Hüddoğlu, Head of the Alanya Tropical Fruit Producers Association, told an Anatolian Agency (AA) reporter that tropical fruit cultivation, which started as a hobby about 30 years ago in the district, has transformed into a commercial sector in the last 10 years.

Foreign buyers want contract farming…

Hüddoğlu stated that they aim to reach a level that will meet the needs of the domestic market in all tropical fruit varieties and that they aim to reduce dependence on foreign sources in the next 10 years.

Pointing out that foreign buyers have shown interest in Alanya’s products at international fairs and market meetings, he said, “Traders from Europe, Russia and the Turkestan region, in particular, have come to the district to request products.”

Emphasizing that Antalya’s district of Alanya’s proximity to the European market is a significant advantage, he noted, “Our products can be delivered to Europe within 48 to 56 hours of being harvested.”

He also indicated that logistics costs are lower compared to shipments from South America and that the region’s climate and soil structure also positively affect the quality and taste of the products.

“Foreign buyers are offering direct contract production to producers in Alanya for these reasons and that they expect the export potential of tropical fruits to increase even further in the coming period.”

The goal is value-added products and exports…

Underlining that they are working on processing tropical fruits to obtain higher added value, rather than just selling them fresh, he explained, “We aim to develop derivatives of mangoes that can be used in tea, marmalade and dried products, as well as in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.”

“With the commissioning of the new wholesale market, we will be able to offer more regular and higher quantities of products to international markets. By the way, I would like to express my belief that the tropical fruit sector will make a significant contribution to the Alanya and regional economy in the coming years and that we aim to raise our share in foreign markets while boosting production potential,” he added.

“Our goal is to become the largest supplier of tropical fruits to Europe, Russia and the Turkestan region within 10 years,” he concluded…
