The greenhouse organised agriculture zone established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the Çaycuma district of Zonguldak is expected to ramp up agricultural production in the Western Black Sea region.

The Çaycuma Greenhouse Organised Agriculture Zone, established on an area of 524 decares, was announced by Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı as having ‘begun production.’ The ministry provided 200 million lira in infrastructure support for the zone.

The facility, which will employ 1,000 people, 75 percent of whom are women, consists of 15 greenhouses and three industrial plots. The Çaycuma Greenhouse Organised Agricultural Zone, expected to contribute 750 million lira annually to the national economy, operates with high-tech, zero-waste, and sustainable production infrastructure.

The region’s importance is enhanced by its favourable logistics capabilities and proximity to metropolitan cities such as Ankara and Istanbul, which are among the factors encouraging production.

The facility, which aims to produce high value-added products with a focus on exports, will produce seedlings, vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants, generating significant income for the regional and national economy.

Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Nihat Ağan announced that one of the most important elements of agriculture-based specialised organised industrial zones is to encourage modern agriculture and increase employment.

Ağan noted that the project aims to generate substantial income for the national economy and stated that it will provide employment opportunities for a total of 1,000 people in the region.

Ağan also emphasised that the region has extremely high logistical capabilities, with the presence of rail, air, sea and road transport further enhancing the importance of the greenhouse-based organised agricultural zone…
