Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi stated that the aim of the next season is to reach 1 million tonnes of cotton production thanks to the recently announced subsidy support.
Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, had declared the subsidy in cotton last week. Accordingly subsidy amount of cotton declared as 1.1 lira per kilo with a 37.5 percent increase compared to last year. Along with fertilizer and diesel support, the total amount of supports will reach the level of 1.23 lira per kilo.
Expressing that they expect an rise in the number of producers next year, Eskinazi said, “I think we should work to ensure that the subsidies are not fixed, but according to the world markets. We should be in coordination with the Ministry on this issue.”
