Hayrettin Uçak: Our target for pickle exports is to surpass 500 million dollars

Press release…

Pickled products, which are among Türkiye’s traditional delicacies, consolidated their leading position in global markets in 2025. Whilst Türkiye exported pickled products worth 458 million dollars in 2025, Izmir achieved the distinction of being the world’s leading exporter of pickled products, with exports worth 207 million dollars.

Hayrettin Uçak, Chairman of the Sectoral Council of the Turkish Fruit and Vegetable Products Exporters’ Associations, who noted that the country produces 58–60 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually, emphasised that pickles—made to ensure fruit and vegetables that cannot be consumed in season are enjoyed throughout the year—bring both flavour and health benefits not only to Turkish tables but to tables across the globe.

The target for pickle exports in 2026 is to exceed 500 million dollars…

Pointing out that pickle exports reached 447 million dollars in 2024, Uçak stated, “In 2025, there were declines in fruit and vegetable production due to the climate crisis. As a result, our pickle exports fell from 332.1 million kilograms to 311 million kilograms in terms of volume. Despite the decline in volume, our export revenue soared by 2.5 percent to reach 458 million dollars. This figure highlights the rise in value-added exports and unit price performance. We are experiencing a more productive season for fruit and vegetable production in 2026.

“With pickled products seeing increased global demand due to the healthy eating trend, coupled with investments in product diversity, branding and value-added production, we believe we will exceed the 500 million dollar target for pickle exports in 2026,” he said.

Izmir accounts for 45 percent of Türkiye’s pickle exports…

Underlining that Izmir leads the way in the country’s pickle exports with a figure of 207 million dollars, he added, “Izmir continues to be the driving force of the pickle sector. Izmir accounts for 45 percent of pickle exports. Bursa followed with 65 million dollars and Manisa with 52 million dollars. Istanbul, Aydın, Gaziantep and Hatay also featured among the provinces making a strong contribution to exports.”
