Press release…
Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board, said that that such periods, when global prices decline while production increases, also provide opportunities for raw material imports.
“Sunflower seed is more abundant compared to previous years. Considering that our farmers have many problems such as drought, disease and yield loss during the harvest season, this abundance is now in our favour. Our Ministry of Trade recognised this opportunity in time and took appropriate measures and provided tax reductions up to a certain quota in sunflower seed and crude sunflower oil. This input, approaching 350 thousand tonnes in total, brought abundance to food exporting businesses,” he said.
“TAKE Project contributed to 110 thousand farmers last year”
Pointing out that the importance of ensuring sustainability in production in protecting the producers and ensuring the country’s self-sufficiency, he added, “The Supporting the Enabling Utilization of Agricultural Lands (TAKE) Project, which is carried out by our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for lands that are not cultivated, left fallow or not suitable for cultivated agriculture, aims to contribute directly to our cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector. Thanks to this TAKE project, which 110 thousand farmers benefited from last year, inefficient agricultural lands are made suitable for production with appropriate rotation plans and planting methods. Such public projects that strengthen our production ecosystem enable us to set bold targets for ourselves as exporters.”
