Cherry, which is among the favourite fruits of many people with its health benefits and its taste that delights the palate, has officially become a Turkish fruit. Achieving greater success in cherry production every year, Turkey produces tonnes more cherries than even its closest competitor.
“WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHERRY PRODUCTION”
Gazi Kutlu, who is an agricultural consultant and also an Agricultural Engineer, drew attention to Türkiye’s place in cherry production with a post on his social media account.
Stating that the country, which has been the world leader in cherry production for many years, is getting better every year, Kutlu said, “Türkiye’s world cherry production leadership, which started in 1990, continued between 1991, 1995-1997, 1999-2001 and 2003-2022. In short, we are responsible for cherries.”
WORLD BRAND IN CHERRY PRODUCTION…
Explaining that according to the World Food Organisation (FAO) data, in 2018, 432 thousand ha with an increase of 2 percent in area and 2,547,994 tonnes of cherries were produced in the world with an increase of 5 percent in production compared to the previous year,” Kutlu added, “When the data for the last ten years (2009-2018) are analysed, it is seen that there is an increase of 10 percent in area, 18 percent in production and 8 percent in yield.”
“In 2018, Türkiye continues to be the world leader by accounting for 19 percent of the total world cherry area with 84,087 ha and 25 percent of the total world cherry production with 639,564 tonnes. While this leadership continues in 2022, according to the latest data, our country ranks first in the list with 656,041 tonnes,” Kutlu concluded…
