AYHAN BARUT: CORN PRICES WILL BE REVISED TO 1.200 LİRAS

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Adana Deputy, Member of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Commission in Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Ayhan Barut demanded that the price of 1.150 liras per ton of corn to be revised at least to 1.200 liras.

Barut said that the base price of corn was declared with an increase of only 21 percent 1.150 liras per ton this year.

Barut pointed out that the costs of diesel, fertilizer, pesticides, electricity and irrigation, which constitute the most important item of agricultural production cost items, are constantly increasing, but crops produced by farmers with big efforts don’t pay back.

Barut stated, “Wheat prices increased by 29 percent this year compared to 2018. Even this did not meet the expectations of producers. While we wanted to meet the expectations of wheat producers with premium support, corn producers were disappointed with the base price announced. Despite the increase in diesel, fertilizer and pesticide prices, wheat prices 29 percent compared to last year, while the increase in corn prices increased by only 21 percent compared to last year.”

“To eliminate the grievance of corn base price announced, it will be revised to at least 1.200 liras. That’s what we expect” he warned…
