Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Agriculture, Agricultural Structures and Irrigation Department Head Professor Dr. Yusuf Demir said that until 2050, a 10 percent decrease in the average rainfall in Türkiye is expected in regions other than the Black Sea Region.

Pointing out that in the next 20-25 years, that is, until 2050, a spike in the average temperature in Türkiye is calculated to reach 2.5 degrees, Dr. Demir said, “These are very important figures because a spike of 1 degree in temperature in a region indicates very great dangers.”
Speaking about the country’s future precipitation amount, Dr. Demir explained, “Until 2050, a 10 percent decrease in the average precipitation amount in our country is expected in regions other than the Black Sea Region. This shows that the amount of precipitation that will fall in our country will go down significantly. At the same time, in the next 20-25 years, that is, until 2050, an increase in the average temperature in Turkey is calculated to reach 2.5 degrees Celsius.”
“These are very important figures because an increase of 1 degree in temperature in a region indicates very great dangers. It is estimated in the calculations that it will bring about changes in terms of precipitation regime and precipitation patterns. For this reason, the possibility of decreasing snowfall in Türkiye in the coming period, the shift of seasons can reach very serious dimensions,” Dr. Demir added…
