February exports of the cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products sector, which covers basic food products, especially wheat flour, pasta, vegetable oils, biscuits and sugary and cocoa products, were announced as 2.1 billion dollars. The cereal producers, who managed to ramp up their exports by 2 percent in this period, raised their export share in the field of plant products in the agricultural production group to 49.9 percent. Total cereals exports were 2.2 million tonnes in the first 2 months of the year and the average export price per kg was 0.94 dollar. The most exported commodity group was chocolate and cocoa-containing products with 183.2 million dollars, followed by sunflower oil with 173 million dollars. Due to the restrictions on wheat imports, the share of wheat flour, whose exports decreased by 37.6 percent to 160.8 million dollars, in total cereals exports decreased to 7.6 percent. While the countries with the highest exports were Iraq, the USA and Syria, exports to African countries soared by 13.6 percent.

‘We exported more than 500 million dollars of cereals to Africa in 2 months’
Drawing attention to the increasing commercial potential of Africa, whose share in Türkiye’s total cereal exports is approaching 25 percent, Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board, said that Africa, where the cereal exports reached 2.9 billion dollars at the end of 2024, is the second largest export region of their sector after the Middle East market.
“The continent, whose population is approaching 1.5 billion and has a share in our sectoral exports above the sum of the shares of the EU and the USA, is increasing its demand for our products every year. In terms of current trade volume, we cooperate most with the Greater Sahara countries, which include developing countries such as Algeria, Libya and Egypt,” he said.
“In addition, we also assume an important responsibility in terms of access to major food products such as wheat flour, pasta and vegetable oil for the population fed under unhealthy and unfavourable conditions in the Sub-Saharan region. In the first 2 months of 2025, we exported 507.9 million dollars to African countries, where our exports surged by 13.6 percent. In the coming period, we want to be as effective in Africa as we are in the Middle East,” he added…
