Mustafa Kürlek: Köklü Olive Oil will endear itself to the Japanese

Press release…

Köklü Olive, one of Türkiye’s largest olive oil exporters and an international flavour award-winning olive oil company, is preparing to take part in the Japan Foodex fair between 11-14 March. Köklü Olive aims to ramp up its exports to Japan, where annual olive oil consumption exceeds 50 thousand tonnes and where olive oil has started to find a place in kitchens.

Ayvalık-based Köklü olive, one of the top 5 companies exporting the most olive oil in the country, is managed by the 4th generation today with its 500 years of roots. Closing the year 2024 with a turnover of 3 billion TL, Köklü Olive focused on foreign fair participation and export marketing in order to surge the share of exports in sales to 85 percent during the year. Türkiye’s flavour award-winning brand Köklü Olive, which is crowned with quality and flavour awards in international competitions every year with the olive oil varieties it offers for sale, turned its route to Japan Foodex, one of the world’s largest food fairs, after the food fairs in Paris and Dubai. Köklü Olive, which will take place in hall E1A19 and booth number 65 between 11-14 March, aims to expand its export volume in the Japanese market.

Stating that their target is to be one of the top 3 companies of Türkiye in packaged olive oil exports as well as their success in bulk olive oil exports, Mustafa Kürlek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Köklü Olive said that they continue to promote their internationally registered flavours abroad by participating in the world’s important food fairs in order to increase their exports.

“After the food fairs in Paris for Europe and Dubai for the Middle East, we decided to participate in Foodex in Japan in order to boost our exports to the Far East. Although olive oil consumption in Japan is not included in traditional cuisines, while it was less than a thousand tonnes in the early 90s, it has now exceeded 50 thousand tonnes and the market continues to grow,” Kürlek said.

Pointing out that as the sector, their exports to Japan have also soared every year and have approached 50 million dollars and olive oil ranks 3rd in total food exports to Japan, Kürlek added, “Again, Türkiye is in the 3rd position in the ranking of Japan’s olive oil import markets. Our aim is to raise our slice of this cake both for the country and the company. As a company, we export to approximately 20 countries, especially America, Spain, Japan and Italy.”
