Press release…
Speaking about white meat, which has recently come to the agenda with price hikes, Bedri Girit, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, pointed out that the price hike of white meat producers was 50.2 percent in 2023 and that this figure was 15 percent below the 65 percent inflation announced by TURKSTAT.
“Prices are formed in the market, the solution is to boost production”
Speaking at the 2023 Ordinary Financial General Assembly Meeting of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association held at the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, Girit said, “In the past, white meat producers determined the price of white meat that the end consumer would buy. With the decision of the Competition Board, this was left in the hands of market actors. The price increase of white meat producers in 2023 remained at 50.2 percent. If the consumer buys more expensive white meat, white meat producers are not responsible for this.”
Pointing out that the way to keep the prices of food products below inflation in the domestic market is through production, Girit continued his words as follows; “If we produce, prices are more balanced. If we turn to imports instead of producing, we also buy the inflation of the countries we import. Instead of employing our workers, we contribute to the employment of foreign workers. When we import, we are not only importing products, we are also importing its problems.”
