Türkiye accounts for 1.5 percent of global food exports!

Anatolia, the cradle of humanity, is the world’s food storehouse with its fertile lands, four-season climate and rich biodiversity. Türkiye, which has ramped up its food exports ninefold in the last 22 years, accounts for 1.5 percent of global food exports.

Turkish farmers produce 137 million tonnes of crops on 24 million hectares of land. According to 2024 data, Türkiye leads Europe with an agricultural output of 74 billion dollars and ranks eighth in the world.

The country’s agricultural product exports exceeded 36 billion dollars by the end of 2024, with food products accounting for 28.5 billion dollars of this export value.

Türkiye is a world leader or ranks among the top producers of many food products. The country is the world’s leading producer of hazelnuts, cherries, figs, apricots, quinces, bay leaves, thyme, table olives, sea bass, sea bream and poppy seeds and ranks second in honey, melons and watermelons and ranks third in the production of lentils, pistachios, chestnuts, sour cherries, peaches, mandarins and cucumbers, also fourth in the production of walnuts, apples, tomatoes, aubergines, spinach and peppers.

Türkiye also ranks ninth in the world and third in Europe in raw milk production. In addition, it ranks seventh in the world and first in Europe in beef production and ninth in the world and second in Europe in chicken meat production.

Türkiye ranks tenth in the world and second in Europe in egg production, while it ranks second in the world and first in Europe in honey production.

The Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) bring in over 7.5 billion dollars in foreign exchange revenue for the country by distributing the products of Turkish farmers, who produce a wide range of goods from dried fruit to olive oil, from aquatic products to medicinal and aromatic plants and from fruit, vegetables and processed goods to cereals, pulses and oilseeds, to all corners of the world. It accounts for 22 percent of Türkiye’s 36 billion dollar agrifood exports.

Although the cold weather, hail and frost that affected 38 provinces in March and April 2025 caused serious damage to the country’s agricultural production in 2025, Türkiye has the infrastructure to maintain its position as the world’s food storehouse in the coming years.

On the other hand, the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, Türkiye’s leader in food exports, are striving to boost the annual agricultural product exports of 7.5 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars through its six food associations…
