Olive oil, an essential part of Turkish cuisine, will boost gastronomy tourism in Balıkesir-Ayvalık.
In Ayvalık, one of Türkiye’s major olive production centres and a designated geographical indication for olive oil, producers have expanded their focus with gastronomy tourism.

Nova Vera Founder Bahar Alan told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter that Türkiye boasts a diverse range of olive varieties, that these olives are processed well to produce high-quality olive oil and that Türkiye is renowned globally for its olive oil production.
Emphasizing that olive oil has high gastronomic value, Alan stated that they aim to offer a quality product to both chefs and home cooks by producing high-quality olive oil and that they have taken the first step in this direction.
Alan also emphasized that olive oil is also a valuable product for health, pointing out that there are 98 varieties of olive trees across Türkiye.

“We export our olive oil to overseas countries like Japan and the US.”
Highlighting that they produce and launch new products from these diverse varieties, she said,
“We export our olive oil, especially to overseas countries like Japan and the US. Our olive oil, with a polyphenol content of 740, is among the best-selling products. This is because the Americans and Japanese recognized the value of this healthful ingredient much earlier.”
Underlining that Türkiye, which has attracted attention in olive oil production, is also making progress in gastronomy, she added, “We are charting a new path in this regard and have launched the ‘Foretaste (Tadımlık) Ayvalık Cuisine’ project. What is more, we will bring guests together around the table by creating new flavours in this cuisine and that Türkiye’s culinary culture attracts the attention of both domestic and international guests.”
