In a statement to an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent, Türkyılmaz said that the spike in Türkiye’s fishery production had been strongly reflected in exports.
Recalling that production in this sector reached 1 million 37 thousand tonnes last year, breaking a record in the history of the Republic, Türkyılmaz said, “627 thousand tonnes of this come from aquaculture and 410 thousand tonnes from fishing. Therefore, aquaculture’s share of production rose to 60 percent.”
Explaining that fishery exports last year amounted to 288,000 tonnes by volume and 2.25 billion dollars by value, he added, “Our sector generated a trade surplus of approximately 1.9 billion dollars. This positive trend is continuing into 2026. In the first six months of this year, our exports rose by 13 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.1 billion dollars. We aim to achieve exports of at least 2.4 billion dollars in fisheries by the end of this year.”
