“OUR COWS SHOULD NOT BE SLAUGHTERED!”

Press release…

There is a call from Ödemiş, the centre of milk:

“Let our milk, which is valuable while drinking, find its value when selling it. Our cows should not be slaughtered!”

Mehmet Eriş, the educator mayor of Ödemiş, the district with the highest milk production in Türkiye's Aegean coast province of Izmir, stated that the purchase price of raw milk from the producer is not even enough to cover the costs and drew attention to the increasing number of slaughtered dairy cows in recent days. “Let our milk, which is valuable for our children, find its value when it is bought from the producer. Our cows should not be slaughtered," Eriş said.

Mehmet Eriş, Mayor of Ödemiş, met with local milk producers for a breakfast and emphasized the price crisis in raw milk and the increasing number of slaughtered dairy cows recently.

Mayor Mehmet Eriş, his wife Selma Eriş, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Ödemiş District Chair Hamdi Halis, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Ödemiş Local Services Coordinator Hikmet Güriş, members of the city council, heads of cooperatives, producer unions and chambers attended the breakfast at Ödemiş Municipality Tuesday Market Cafeteria with the cooperation of Ödemiş Municipality and producers, representatives, headmen, veterinarians and cattle producers.

Expressing that they are considering this organization together with the producers to draw attention to the price crisis in milk, Mayor of Ödemiş, Mehmet Eriş, underlined that together with Ödemiş, which is an important centre with milk production exceeding 2 thousand 200 tonnes per day, dairy cows started to be slaughtered due to the financial loss of producers in many parts of the country.
