Namık Kemal Parlak; Türkiye’s next generation flour millers

The Turkish flour industry is facing challenges, particularly in the wake of the wheat import ban. With Egypt and Russia reducing Turkey’s share in the global flour market, the road ahead appears difficult. However, I believe that despite these trying times, the future of the Turkish flour industry remains promising.

The sector has long been dominated by family-owned companies, with leadership often passed down through generations. In many companies, the second and even third generations are now taking the helm. This new wave of leaders is young, dynamic, and deeply rooted in the industry’s legacy. They are a unique blend of self-taught expertise and formal education. They are fluent in foreign languages, adept at following global trends, and not just reacting to change, but actively shaping it.

During my time at Gulfood, I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with key representatives of this emerging generation. Listening to their visions for the future deepened my conviction that the Turkish flour industry is in safe hands. The passion and forward-thinking mindset of these young leaders are inspiring, and their leadership will guide the industry through any adversity ahead. I am confident that this next generation will lead the sector to new heights.
