Mustafa Altuğ Atalay, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, said that Turkish salmon production has increased in the Black Sea and as of 2023, around 66 thousand tonnes of Turkish salmon were raised.

Atalay explained that salmon production in the Black Sea has been improved with the right policies implemented by the Ministry.
Emphasising that they have now become a country that has a say in salmon production in the world, Atalay noted, “Our country is an important aquaculture and fishery country surrounded by seas on three sides. Both our hunters and producers are doing very successful work in hunting and production. We are the first in the world in sea bass and sea bream. We are second in the world in trout, but we had a little deficiency in salmon. It was being imported. With the Turkish salmon project we developed 8-10 years ago as a ministry policy, the fertile waters of the Black Sea, especially Sinop, have now become the base of Turkish salmon.”
“As of 2023, around 66 thousand tonnes of Turkish salmon were raised in the Black Sea. Most of this was exported and it is also consumed in the domestic market. Although it is superior or equal to imported fish in terms of quality, it is sold at half the price,” Atalay added…
