Sinop Central Fisheries Cooperative Union Chairperson Namık Ünlü stated that this year, they will start bonito fishing on the day they call September 1.
“It looks very, very good bonito fishing. The current indications in the sea seem to be 50 times more bonito than last year,” he said.
In the Black Sea province of Sinop, which is known as one of the important fishing centres, fishermen are about to complete their preparations for the fishing season that will start on 1 September. Namık Ünlü, Head of Sinop Central Fisheries Cooperative Union, announced that they have largely completed their preparations for 1 September.
Pointing out that there will be bonito fishing this year compared to last year, he explained, “This year we started to buy our nets before the season and our crews came. On 1 September, we will say ‘Vira Bismillah’, God willing. This year, we will start bonito fishing on the day we say 1 September, God willing. Bonito fishing looks very, very good. The current indications in the sea seem to be 50 times more bonito than last year. We have 100 anchors that have taken 100 grains, they say they see much bigger fish right now. We will hopefully see it when we go out to sea. We think that this season will be very productive in terms of bonito. Because the indications are very good.”
“Last year there was no bonito anyway, but anchovies were abundant. This year, it seems like we will fill its place with bonito. It is already too early to comment on anchovy. Because, when this fish is abundant, it grinds anchovy like a mill. In order for a fish to grow, it needs to eat at least 22 kilograms of net anchovy to reach one kilogram, or it needs to eat horse mackerel,” he added…
