Türkiye targets 300 million dollars in cherry exports…

Türkiye has raised its export target from 250 million dollars to 300 million dollars in cherries, of which it is the world leader in production, with the effect of the positive progress in cherry yield and quality in the 2 weeks after the first harvest.

Hayrettin Uçak

Hayrettin Uçak, Head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), said that they aim to export 120 thousand tonnes of cherries in 2024 and to obtain 300 million dollars in foreign currency.

Visiting the cherry orchards in the Şehzadeler district of Manisa province, which grows the first cherries of the Northern Hemisphere, Uçak noted that they have entered a cherry season with very good yield and quality.

Underlining that they expect a yield of 725 thousand tonnes from 22 million cherry trees in Türkiye, Uçak added, “We are aiming a cherry export of around 120 thousand tonnes this year. I hope we will reach that target. I think that if an ideal price is formed for our producers and exporters in the market, we will be able to realise an export of 300 million dollars.”
