Mushroom production continues to boost in Türkiye…

Mushroom production in Türkiye, which was 55,455 tonnes in 2020, rose to 75,340 tonnes last year.

According to information obtained by an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, edible mushrooms have been cultivated in Türkiye since the 1960s. White cap, chestnut, oyster, truffle and morel mushrooms are traded in the country. Some mushroom types, such as reishi, are also produced for medicinal purposes.

Significant progress has been made in recent years in the cultivation of mushrooms as a source of protein. Mushroom production in Türkiye was calculated at 7,785 tonnes in 1995 and has continued to increase since then.

Mushroom production rose to 39,495 tonnes in 2015 and 55,455 tonnes in 2020. In the following years, production was calculated at 61,460 tonnes, 65,636 tonnes and 71,479 tonnes and last year it was recorded at 75,340 tonnes.

Cultivated mushrooms were produced most in Antalya region…

In Türkiye, Antalya province produced the most cultivated mushrooms last year with 22,000 tonnes, followed by Ankara with 14,000 tonnes and Isparta with 10,000 tonnes.

These cities were followed by Afyonkarahisar, Konya, Istanbul and Adana in cultivated mushroom production.

Last year, 3.5 million dollars worth of mushrooms were exported…

Despite the spike in production, mushroom exports followed a fluctuating trend. The aforementioned exports were recorded as 4 million 726 thousand dollars in 2021, 4 million 875 thousand dollars in 2022, and 5 million 459 thousand dollars in 2023. Last year, mushroom exports amounted to 3.527 million dollars…
