Mutlu Doğru, Head of Adana Farmers’ Association, draws attention to the dissatisfaction of farmers engaged in agricultural production all over Türkiye due to problems such as increasing costs, low market prices and shrinking demand and stated that some measures should be taken for the continuation of agricultural production.
These suggestions are listed as follows:
- Among the agricultural credits extended by Ziraat Bank and Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, the interest of credits up to 1 million TL per person or group should be cancelled and the maturities of credits up to 5 million TL should be extended for one year with the same subsidised interest.
- Providing additional loans to the borrowers whose interest is cancelled or whose maturity is extended, to the extent of the increased costs in order to ensure their continuation of production
- Announcement of 50% state support for agricultural irrigation costs as in the previous year
- Additional discount in the tariff applied to agricultural electricity subscribers
- In the 2024 crop production supports, increasing the unit amounts of some supports such as diesel, fertiliser and fodder crops
- In the 2024 crop production supports, surging the price difference support for the products sold below expectations in the market
- Payment of 2024 agricultural supports until the end of the year
- Ensuring that the subsidies loaded on Ziraat Bank Başak Card are used for the payment of all public debts, including irrigation unions
- The majority of farmers who suffered losses due to the fall in the market prices of cereals and other industrial crops, which we have a production deficit and which are supported by price differential support, have turned to planting fresh fruits and vegetables in recent years and have suffered great losses due to the hike in supply. In order to encourage these farmers back to cereals and industrial crops, they should be incentivised with a different and higher support before planting.
- As of April 2024, milk premiums should be enhanced to 1 TL for all farmers, regardless of whether they are made through an organisation
- Raw milk collected through unions and co-operatives is purchased by Meat and Milk Institution (ESK) at National Milk Council (USK) price without any quantity limitation and made into milk powder
- Making tender preparations for the re-implementation of the school milk project for the 2024-25 academic year
- Export incentives in proportion to the amount of raw milk used in the export of milk and dairy products
