The 63rd International Conference of Seedless Raisin Producing Countries was hosted by the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association with the participation of delegations from Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Africa, Türkiye and the USA.
During his presentation, Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said: “I visited Uzbekistan, Iran, China and Australia among the grape producing countries. In Australia, they transparently showed us all viticulture techniques and production techniques. They are constantly renewing themselves in terms of technology. They get more crops in a small area and manage the process with less labour by using water at minimum level.”
“We also saw the effects of the climate crisis. There were ghost dried vineyards. We learnt that they could not provide water to the vineyards at a distance. The climate crisis is a great reality of our time. Last year we had 360 thousand tonnes of harvest. This year we estimate that it will be around 200 thousand tonnes. We need to act together,” he explained.
Pointing out that when they cannot manage these effects, he added, “Price differences, farmer and consumer grievances arise. As exporters, we are very affected by price fluctuations. We need to manage these policies together with all countries and all stakeholders.”
