“We are the first in the Aegean in Good Agricultural Practices”
Within the scope of the ‘Expansion of Biotechnical Control Against the Mediterranean Fruit Fly Project’ and the ‘Good Agricultural Practices Project’, 5 thousand Mediterranean Fruit Fly control traps were distributed to the producers with a ceremony held in Menderes Gümüldür region…
İzmir Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Mustafa Özen said that they have 160 thousand tonnes of tangerine production.
“Satsuma is known around the world for its tangerine flavour and aroma. In Seferihisar, Selçuk and Menderes districts of the province, 80 percent of Satsuma tangerines are exported. That’s why we shouldn’t have any problems, it shouldn’t come back because of the chemical residue used to fight the pest population. Biotechnical control is required. There is zero tolerance in exports to the Mediterranean fruit fly. That’s why these traps are so important. The whole region must struggle. We will distribute free traps to all producers in two neighborhoods in 10 days. Our Ministry supports the production of Good Agricultural Practices. We are the first in the Aegean in Good Agricultural Practices,” Özen said.
“We will take the first step in agricultural planning and production planning in the 2024 production season.”
Emphasing that the farmers produce consciously and selflessly, Özen added, “We make reliable production. We will take radical steps with our ministry and amend the agricultural law. With the law, we will take the first step in agricultural planning and production planning, which will delight the producers, in the 2024 production season. This planning will be done where and how much we will produce in İzmir province. Fifty of the 150 thousand producers are registered to the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS). We will do and register the ÇKS as a producer, not as a property from now on.”
“We are in the tomato harvest season. Tomato paste factory owners should pay for the labour of our producers. There is a new legislative study on contract production. I would like to stress once again the importance of insuring our producers for minimum damage from climate change,” Özen concluded…
