Aegean Exporters’ Association (EIB) Organic Products and Sustainability Coordinator, Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Mehmet Ali Işık said that organic production and export in Türkiye started 32 years ago in Izmir under the leadership of Aegean Exporters’ Associations.”
“As Aegean exporters, who realize 75 percent of our country’s organic product exports, we invest in many projects in sustainability with the cooperation of both the academy and our national/international stakeholders. The Association of Ecological Agriculture Organisation (ETO) is one of our main stakeholders that creates added value by embracing all segments from producers to exporters, from universities to consumers, which has adopted the principle of ecological producer, development and adoption of products and organic agriculture for 30 years,” Işık said.
“We have come to these days with our nails with all our stakeholders for 30 years. Our export success of 1.6 billion dollars is the work of our cooperation, the success of organic. Our experience in organic farming has carried us to where we are today. We reach 100 thousand farmers in the Aegean Region,” Işık added.
Pointing out that they have been appointed as the Coordinating Association in the organic sector by the Ministry of Trade, Işık explained, “EIB established the Sustainability Department for the first time among exporters’ associations in Türkiye. Organic farming is a revolution in the world. German Federal Minister of Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, announced that they will use 30 percent of the resources of the Ministry of Agriculture for research, innovation and investment expenditures to strengthen organic agriculture. The transition to organic agriculture is a strategic decision for the development of European Union countries.”
“Türkiye should also develop a new and comprehensive strategy in organic matter. That is why ETO’s mission in our country is so great. Organic production, which started with the dried fruit sector 30 years ago in the country, has come to the position of producing in many different sectors today. Our country has an annual organic export of 500 million dollars. Together with all our stakeholders, we will ramp up the export of our organic sector to 1 billion dollars,” he concluded…
