In Türkiye’s western province of Bursa’s İnegöl Municipality ramped up the production of ‘Cerrah dry beans’, which is grown in Cerrah neighbourhood and does not require soaking for cooking, by obtaining the geographical indication registration.

200 tonnes of beans are harvested annually…
‘Cerrah dry beans’, which is registered by İnegöl Municipality as a geographical sign, can be cooked without the need for soaking a day in advance.
The production of dried beans, which were widely grown in the past in the rural Cerrah neighbourhood of İnegöl, decreased over time due to industrialisation and producers turning to other products.
As a result of the works initiated by İnegöl Municipality to bring ‘Cerrah dry beans’ back to its old days, the cultivation area increased up to 1000 decares.

The beans, whose production is increasing and geographical indication registration is taken by İnegöl Municipality, can be cooked without the need to soak a day in advance.
İnegol Mayor Alper Taban made a statement that they are working to reappear the values of Inegol.
Stating that one of them is ‘Cerrah dry beans’, Taban said, “The cultivated area of Cerrah dry beans has reached up to 1000 decares recently. Therefore, approximately 200 tonnes of beans are harvested annually from this 1000 decare area.”
