Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye exported 213.4 million dollars of fresh fruit and vegetables in August. Stating that a spike of 36 percent was achieved in fresh fruit and vegetable exports compared to the same period last year, Gürüz said that they achieved the strongest performance in the export volume in Iraq, Syria, France, Switzerland and Poland markets.
Emphasising that the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association exported 79.7 million dollars in August with an increase of 31 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, Gürüz said, “We provided the strongest support to Türkiye’s overall sector exports with a rate of 37 percent.”
“We exported the most peaches, figs and grapes”
Pointing out that in August, the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector evaluated 257 thousand 529 tonnes of products in international markets, Gürüz explained, “Peaches, figs and grapes took the first three places in the products we exported the most in the period in question. We exported 42.2 million dollars with an increase of 47 percent in peach, 35.5 million dollars with an increase of 164 percent in figs, and 28.5 million dollars with an increase of 13 percent in grapes. In August, we showed the highest performance in export volume in potatoes, plums and watermelon. We reached an export value of 3.5 million dollars with an increase of 3 thousand 763 percent in potatoes, 7 million dollars with an increase of 554 percent in plums, and 6.3 million dollars with an increase of 295 percent in watermelon.”
“Our leading markets are Russia, Iraq and Germany”
Exporting fresh fruit and vegetables mainly to the European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East countries, Türkiye reached the highest values in the Russian, Iraqi and German markets in August, Gürüz added, “The export volume accelerated in Iraq, Syria, France, Switzerland and Poland. In the list of countries where we exported the most in the 8th month of the year, Russia ranked first with an increase of 24 percent and a value of 46 million dollars, Iraq ranked second with an increase of 161 percent and a value of 35 million dollars, and Germany ranked third with an increase of 24 percent and a value of 29 million dollars. In the increases we achieved in export volume, Iraq was followed by Syria with 151 percent increase and 2.8 million dollars, France with 124 percent increase and 2.1 million dollars, Switzerland with 117 percent increase and 2 million dollars, Poland with 116 percent increase and 6.9 million dollars.”
