According to the draft communiqué on eggs, the ‘recommended consumption date’ will be specified for the shelf life of eggs instead of the ‘final consumption date’.
İbrahim Afyon, Chairperson of the Central Union of Egg Producers (YUM-BİR), stated that according to the draft communiqué on eggs prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, waste will be prevented with the regulation regarding the ‘recommended consumption date’ instead of the ‘final consumption date’ for the shelf life of the egg.

The Ministry will update the Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Eggs in order to ensure food safety, protect the interests of consumers by preventing misleading them and prevent unfair competition. With the draft amendment prepared, the shelf life of eggs has been regulated in line with the phrase ‘The period of delivery of Class A eggs to the consumer is 28 days from the date of laying’ in the relevant regulation of the European Union (EU).
The amendment in the EU regulation stating that ‘Class A eggs must be classified, labelled and packaged within 10 days after laying, and Class A eggs that are not labelled within 10 days after laying are considered as Class B (used in the food industry) eggs’ was also added to the draft communiqué. In order to ensure that eggs are consumed without wasting, the phrase ‘recommended consumption date’ will be used instead of the phrase ‘expiry date’ used for shelf life, as in the EU…
