DR. KAMİL OKYAY SINDIR: THERE IS NO AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION PLANNING IN TURKEY

Press release…

Republican People’s Party (CHP) İzmir Deputy Professor Dr. Kamil Okyay Sındır spoke on behalf of his party in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) on his research proposal regarding the increase in the price of agricultural production.

Dr. Sındır said that there is no production planning, there is not even a healthy database for planning, there is no security and stability of supply and demand in agricultural products.

“Agricultural production areas are constantly and significantly shrinking. Production inputs and product markets are not regulated. Agricultural product markets have been delivered to intermediaries and import lobbies,” Sındır noted.

In his speech, defending the view that the farmer has been left unattended, Dr. Sındır stated, “Sufficient support is not given to the producers and that the support is far from planning production, providing productivity, quality increase along with ensuring food safety and security.”

“NO MECHANISMS THAT CONTROL AND REGULATE THE MARKETS”

Referring to the importance of supply and demand stability in the market, Sındır said, “When it comes to price increase in agricultural products, first of all, we should talk about the price. What’s the price? Price is actually a value that occurs at the point where supply and demand meet. If supply rises and demand falls, prices naturally fall; If the supply is low and the demand is high, that is, if the supply of a product in the market is not sufficient, prices naturally increase. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the security and stability of supply and demand in product markets.”

“Is there such a stability in agricultural crops? Unfortunately, it is not possible to talk about it because the markets have been handed over to intermediaries and import lobbies, our farmers are left unattended. There are no mechanisms controlling the markets, there are no mechanisms that regulate the markets on the basis of crops,” Dr. Sındır added.
