In Turkish waters, anchovy has remained the most caught species over the past 10 years, with 1,689,980 tonnes, followed by mackerel, bonito, sardine, horse mackerel and bluefish.

According to a compilation by an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Turkish Statistical Institute, the most commonly caught fish in Turkish waters over the past 10 years were anchovy, mackerel, bonito, sardine, horse mackerel and bluefish, in that order.
Over the past 10 years, 1,689,980 tonnes of anchovy, 347,141 tonnes of mackerel, 210,700 tonnes of bonito, 185,178 tonnes of sardine, 166,288 tonnes of horse mackerel and 43,395 tonnes of bluefish were caught.
The amount of fish caught fluctuated from year to year. Accordingly, the amount of anchovy caught rose from 96,440 tonnes in 2004 to 153,175 tonnes last year. Anchovy fishing reached its peak in the last 10 years with 273,915 tonnes in 2023.

After anchovies, the most caught fish was mackerel. The amount of mackerel caught was recorded as 76,996 tonnes in 2015 and 16,067 tonnes last year. Mackerel fishing peaked at 76,996 tonnes in 2015.
The amount of bonito caught in Turkey in 2015 was 4,573 tonnes, while last year it rose to 49,278 tonnes. During this period, the highest amount of bonito was caught in 2022 with 49,892 tonnes.
The amount of sardines caught was recorded as 16,693 tonnes in 2015, while last year it increased to 17,818 tonnes. During this period, the highest amount of sardines caught was 23,426 tonnes in 2017.
Ten years ago, 16,664 tonnes of horse mackerel were caught, while last year this figure rose to 19,649 tonnes. The highest amount of horse mackerel caught was 24,006 tonnes in 2021.
