FERHAT GURUZ: TURKIYE’S FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE EXPORTS SURPASSED 1.69 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE FIRST HALF

Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, announced that Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports reached the level of 1.69 billion dollars with a hike of 17 percent in the first half of 2023 and this performance was supported with 46 percent by the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Associations.

Gürüz said that their Association, which is the leader of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, realized an export of 779.1 million dollars with an increase of 17 percent between January and June 2023.

Noting that the fresh fruit and vegetable sector is of strategic importance due to the net foreign currency input it provides to the national economy, creating employment for millions of people in the process from harvesting to packaging, from transportation to export, Gürüz said: “We continue to work day and night to ensure that the hard work and efforts of our producers are met with higher values in international markets and to create a picture of pride worthy of the 100th anniversary of our Republic.”

“We are trying to ramp up market diversity, especially in Far East countries”

Pointing out that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), European Union and Middle East countries are predominant in the exports of the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector, Gürüz explained: “While we strengthen our presence in our main markets, we aim to ramp up our market diversity, especially in the Far East countries. In line with these goals, we carry out extensive studies on the selection of environmentally friendly agricultural control methods, training of producers and harvest workers regarding harvest and post-harvest processes, packaging and marketing.”

“By participating in delegations and fairs that will benefit our industry, we are making important moves to strengthen the perception that ‘Turkish goods are of high quality’,” Gürüz added…
