Tiryakioğlu, who drew attention to the fact that frost-related losses are particularly concentrated in fruit production areas, while grains, pulses and oilseeds, which are among the strategic products, have not been affected to a great extent, pointed out the sector’s position in the general agricultural output.
“While the recent frost event affecting agricultural activities caused serious yield losses mainly in fruit production areas, grains, legumes and oilseeds, which have strategic importance in terms of basic food, have not been affected to a great extent by this negativity. Maintaining the supply balance in these products, which constitute the main source of nutrition, has had an important impact both in terms of domestic market stability and the continuation of the export tempo,” he said.
“The fact that production will be close to the average of previous years, especially in crops such as wheat, barley and lentils, has once again revealed the sector’s production flexibility against weather conditions. The limited impact of this product group, which has the largest share in agricultural output, has been a factor that reduces the pressure on general agricultural income. This structural feature, which is less affected by seasonal risks, clearly demonstrated the sector’s balancing role in the fight against inflation. In addition, it should not be forgotten that Türkiye’s acceleration in exports, despite the supply contractions experienced in the global market, is based on sustainable production infrastructure as much as product quality,” he added…
