Türkiye’s first floating solar power plant installed at Keban Dam…

Solar energy investments continue in Türkiye. Kuzuova Floating Solar Power Plant, Türkiye’s first energy generating floating solar power plant, was established on the surface of Elazığ Keban Dam Lake.

The country’s first floating solar power plant (SPP) built on the Keban Dam in Elazığ started to generate electricity. Kuzuova Floating Solar Power Plant, a floating facility installed on the surface of Elazığ Keban Dam lake, has hundreds of solar energy panels on the water. It was also shared that the power plant will generate millions of kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Türkiye’s first floating solar power plant…

Türkiye’s first floating solar power plant, Kuzuova Floating Solar Power Plant, has an installed capacity of 1MW. This unit will also be combined with the 2 MWsolar energy system on land to provide half of the electricity required for irrigation. Kuzuova Floating Solar Power Plant will generate 1 million 800 thousand kWh of electricity per year.

It can meet 25 per cent of the annual need…

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that solar energy systems built on water reservoirs are 10 per cent more efficient and that they are working in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to make this system widespread throughout the country. Yumaklı also emphasized that by using only 10 per cent of the existing water reservoirs, dams and ponds, except for drinking water, one fourth of the country’s annual electricity need can be met.

Although similar floating systems have been built on pond water reservoirs in Türkiye earlier, Yumaklı said that these were small-scale and could not be made to supply electricity to the system. In this context, the Kuzuova Floating Solar Power Plant is a first for the country.
