Stating that they left the 2022/23 season behind with a foreign exchange return of 258.8 million dollars for 73 thousand tonnes in dried fig exports, Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said that there is a 5 percent decrease in yield in the 2023/24 season.
Pointing out that they compensated for this decrease in yield by increasing theri average export price by 27 percent, he said, “We moved our dried figs, which had an average export price of 4 thousand 200 dollars last season, to around 5 thousand 400 dollars this season. Our dried figs have become 1,200 dollars more valuable per tonne. At the end of this season, we aim to export 65 thousand tonnes of dried figs and exceed 300 million dollars in exports. If we exceed 300 million dollars, we will welcome the second century of our Republic with a new export record.”
France and Germany followed the USA in exports…
In Turkey’s dried fig exports, the United States was at the top with 37 million 400 thousand dollars, while there was a fierce race between France and Germany for second place.
In the race for second place, France took the lead with a demand of 25.2 million dollars worth of Turkish dried figs, while Germany, the runner-up of the 2022/23 season, came third with 25.1 million dollars worth of dried imports from the country, losing the second place to France in a photofinish.
Italy, with a demand of 12.6 million dollars, took the fourth spot on the list of countries to which Türkiye exports dried figs, while Canada ramped up its demand for dried figs from the country by a record 102 per cent from 5.3 million to 10.8 million dollars, climbing three places on the list…
