TÜRKİYE MAINTAINED ITS EXPORT VALUE IN FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES DESPITE CLIMATE SHOCK…

Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, announced that Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in May amounted to 283.6 million dollars. Noting that there was a 31 percent decrease in volume in the fifth month of the year but that the value remained at the same level as the same period last year, Chairman Ferhat Gürüz said, “This picture, which emerged during a period of boosting production, logistics and external demand challenges, shows the sector’s ability to create higher added value with lower tonnage.”

Pointing out that export reports reveal that Türkiye is evolving towards a model of obtaining more added value with fewer products in its fresh fruit and vegetable exports, Gürüz noted, “In this context, growth in alternative markets and high price-performance strategies form the new axis of competitiveness in foreign markets.”

Ferhat Gürüz, who examined the country’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in May by country, reported that the markets where they achieved the highest values were Iraq, Russia and Germany and that they achieved the strongest momentum in terms of value in the Belgian, Serbian and Iraqi markets.

Underlining that 76 percent of the sector’s exports in May were concentrated in the Iraqi, Russian, German, Romanian and Ukrainian markets, “Gürüz explained, “We exported 71.7 million dollars to Iraq, 70.5 million dollars to Russia, 30.5 million dollars to Germany, 26.4 million dollars to Romania and 16.3 million dollars to Ukraine. During this period, the countries where we achieved the strongest increases in export volume were Belgium with a 630 percent increase and 3.2 million dollars in value, Serbia with a 93 percent increase and 2.7 million dollars in value, and Iraq with a 44 percent increase and 71.7 million dollars in value, ranking in the top three. Romania, Austria, and the United States were also among the countries where we achieved significant increases.”
