With a harvest of 475,000 tonnes and along with 115,000 tonnes of olive oil carried over from last year, Türkiye which ranks second in the world in olive oil production this year, has launched a ‘licensed warehousing for olive oil’ project that is unique in the world and the country.

The Balıkesir Governor’s Office South Marmara Development Agency Coordination (GMKA), with the support of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce, Burhaniye Chamber of Commerce, Edremit Chamber of Commerce, Edremit Commodity Exchange, Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce, Balıkesir Commodity Exchange, Balıkesir Chamber of Industry, Çanakkale Chamber of Commerce and Bergama Chamber of Commerce as investment partners and with an investment cost of 6 million dollars, the licensed olive oil warehouse facility with a capacity of 6,000 tons will be realised. The land auction for the facility was held on Friday, 20 June, at the Ayvalık District National Property Directorate.
The project aims to create suitable and long-term storage conditions for producers and traders during years of high harvest, contributing to the balance of the olive oil market, meeting wholesale domestic and international market demands when necessary and helping to prevent counterfeiting and adulteration.
