Muhammet Öztürk: Aegean Region is the epicentre of Türkiye’s spice exports

Muhammet Öztürk, Head of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that Turkish spice sector exported 186 million dollars worth of spices with a hike of 10 percent in 2023.

Pointing out that Aegean Region, which is the epicentre of Türkiye’s spice exports, has brought 118 million dollars of foreign currency to the country by realising 64 percent of spice exports, he says, “We exported the spices produced in Türkiye to 153 countries in 2023. The countries that ranked first in our exports in 2023; we exported 23 million dollars to the USA, 21 million dollars to Germany, 10 million dollars to China, 6 million dollars to France and Thailand, 4 million dollars to the United Kingdom, India and the Netherlands.”

“We also promoted Turkish spices by organising the 26th National Participation Organisation of Türkiye in Foodex Japan Fair, the biggest food fair of the Far East. In the last 5 years, Japan’s food imports soared by 17 percent from 62 billion dollars to 73.6 billion dollars. In the same period, Türkiye’s food exports to Japan increased by 72 percent from 164 million dollars to 282 million dollars. We are strong in the Japanese market, we had a productive fair,” he adds.

“Today, we aim to ramp up our spice exports, which have reached an annual export figure of 200 million dollars, to 1 billion dollars in the long term,” he concludes…
