Acting with the motto “If China is not far to buy, it is not far to sell”, Turkish exporters made the first move of 2024 to ramp up their exports to China.

The 25-person Business Delegation, chaired by Tayfun Kılıç, Deputy General Director of Export of the Ministry of Trade, is continuing an intensive programme to boost exports from Türkiye to China with their Chinese counterparts between 29 January – 1 February 2024.

The business delegation, including Hayrettin Uçak, Deputy Coordinator Chairman of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) and Chairman of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), and İ. Cumhur İşbırakmaz, Secretary General of the EIB, made its first visit to the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Domestic Products and Animal By-Products (CFNA).

Speaking at the visit hosted by CFNA President Cao Derong, Hayrettin Uçak shared the information that negotiations are ongoing between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and the General Administration of Quality, Control, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China for the resumption of cherry exports from Türkiye to the People’s Republic of China and the resumption of citrus, pomegranate, grape, apple, fig, almond and kiwi exports in addition to cherries.

Sharing the information that Türkiye wrote a letter to the Chinese authorities in October 2023 for the start of fresh fruit and vegetable exports from the country, Uçak said, “We want to export not only fresh fruit and vegetables, but also all agricultural products and seafood, poultry meat and eggs, dairy products that China imports, which our country is strong in production and exports, to you in a healthy way. If the People’s Republic of China starts to work with us, it will have the opportunity to offer quality Turkish food products to its citizens at affordable prices. We will reach our target of exporting 1 billion dollars of food products to China, which imports 210 billion dollars of food products annually. The win-win philosophy will come to life for both sides.”

Pointing out that the Aegean Exporters’ Associations aim to establish a digital marketplace in China in 2024, Uçak added, “We will exchange views with our Chinese counterparts on this project during the business delegation and we will create the basis for the marketing activities to carry out for the Chinese market in 2024 and in the following years.”
