Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Sector Board, said that Singapore market, one of the most important reexport centres of the world, reaching a population of approximately 500 million, among the founding countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), one of the strongest unions in the world, is at the forefront for them.
“Last year, we received a favourable permission for China. We are trying to introduce Turkish salmon to the world markets. This is a big breakthrough for us,” he said.
Pointing out that Norway earned 6.5 billion dollars from salmon by 2023, he explained, “Our exports of fishery products in Türkiye totalled 1.7 billion dollars in 2023. We export to 119 countries and 42 percent of this is to EU countries. Omega-3 store Turkish salmon soared by 9 percent to 376 million dollars. In 2023, our sea bass exports rose by 2 percent to 517 million dollars, sea bream exports increased by 12 percent to 417 million dollars, while Omega-3 store Turkish salmon increased by 8 percent to 371 million dollars. Sea bass is number one in the US market. We started to send Turkish salmon to the USA and Canada as well.”
“We have a licence for salmon and tuna to China, we have also applied for sea bream and sea bass, if it opens, our exports will boost,” he added…
