The beets planted by farmers in Türkiye’s Eastern Anatolia provinces of Muş and Bitlis are transformed into sugar in factories.
Turgut Kızılkaya, General Manager of Muş Sugar Production Industry Inc., stated that they aim to contribute 2.5 billion liras to the economy this year. In Bitlis, it was reported that there was an increase in sugar beet production and yield.
The journey of the beet, which is planted on 147 thousand decares of land in Muş and Bitlis countries, continues to turn into sugar in the factories.
In Muş, where a significant portion of Türkiye’s sugar need is produced, 2 thousand farmers planted beetroot on an area approximately twice as much as last year.
Turgut Kızılkaya, General Manager of Muş Sugar Production Industry Inc., told Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent that they aim to contribute 2.5 billion liras to the economy this year.
Indicating that sugar beet was planted on 46 thousand decares last year, Kızılkaya said, “This year, 90 thousand decares were planted. We bought 280 thousand tonnes of beet last year. We said that this year would be a record year for our factory. We are moving towards this target. The campaign continues. We have so far received 336 thousand tonnes of beet and processed 210 thousand tonnes of it.”
“By the end of the year, we aim to process 450 thousand tonnes of sugar beet and obtain 60 thousand tonnes of sugar. There will be more than 100 thousand tonnes of bagasse and nearly 15 thousand tonnes of molasses. We will pay approximately 1 billion liras to the farmers. It will provide a serious added value to Muş region,” he added…
