Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolian Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that planned agriculture and new generation support model provide benefits.
Evaluating the recent radical changes in agricultural policies as extremely positive steps in terms of the transition to a planned production period in strategic products, Kadooğlu said, “The planned agriculture and new generation support model, which was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry last September in 13 strategic products and one product group, provides benefits in terms of efficient use of agricultural lands, as well as recording production and directing supports more efficiently.”
“Southeastern Anatolia plays a critical role in this planning with its quality advantage, especially in durum wheat production. However, we believe that second crop agriculture, especially maize, should be supported more systematically in the region, existing irrigation investments should be accelerated and new projects should be commissioned. Such infrastructure investments are important for our producers to remain competitive in global markets and to ensure stable production of strategic agricultural products,” he noted.
“Although the increase in cultivation area in wheat production is pleasing, measures should be taken against yield losses due to global climate changes. The negative effects of recent droughts and extreme heat waves on yields make the use of highly adaptable varieties and agricultural innovations more critical,” he added…
