The future of forestry is being mapped out: Stakeholders gathered to prepare the 10-year strategy of the International Forestry Education Centre

The workshop marked an important milestone in the project to enhance the capacity of the International Forestry Education Centre.

2 July 2025, Ankara – In a world grappling with multidimensional crises such as climate change, environmental degradation and resource scarcity, forests are indispensable building blocks of food security, livelihoods and ecosystem integrity. As vital guardians of global biodiversity, they not only support boundless biological diversity but also make extremely important contributions to the resilience of communities against climate impacts. As emphasized by the FAO, investing in nature-based solutions is crucial for building resilient communities and a sustainable future.

Within this important framework, the International Forestry Education Centre (IFEC) 2026–2035 Strategy Stakeholder Consultation Workshop was held in Ankara on 24 June 2025. The workshop marked an important milestone in the ‘Enhancing the Capacity of the International Forestry Education Centre’ project, which is being implemented under the FAO-Türkiye Forestry Partnership Programme (FTFP) umbrella.

Dr. Ayşegül Selışık, FAO Deputy Representative in Türkiye, emphasised the importance of forests in her opening speech at the Stakeholder Workshop.

“Forests are of fundamental importance in global policies as they embody our vision of better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life. Türkiye’s extensive forestry experience, particularly in the field of forest fire management, is now being institutionalised to better address regional needs,” şhe added…
