Sinan Kızıltan: Seabass leads exports, Turkish salmon leads export record!

Press release…

Seabass, the leading fishery exporter, saw export spike by 10 percent in the first half of the year, reaching 303 million dollars and seabream by 8 percent, reaching 273.7 million dollars. During the same period, Turkish salmon generated 217 million dollars in foreign currency revenue, a 17 percent increase. This performance has made Turkish salmon the sector’s record-holder for export growth in the first half of 2025. Following Turkish salmon were trout with 65 million dollars, tuna with 18.5 million dollars and rock bass with 12.7 million dollars.

In the first half of the year, the Russian Federation led the sector in exports, sending seafood to tables in 78 countries, followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Greece and the United Kingdom.

Evaluating the sector’s export performance, Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Sector Board of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, stated that they are in a better position than last year and that despite the decline in tonnage, foreign exchange inflows continue to rise due to an average 20 percent hike in prices.

Kızıltan explained that the decline in production in rival countries and the Turkish fishery sector’s focus on high-value-added, processed products are contributing to the increase in export prices. He expressed confidence that the sector will achieve its 2 billion dollars export target for the end of 2025.

Highlighting that there are approximately 2,000 fish farms in Türkiye and that they are striving to ensure the sustainability of this sector, which provides a livelihood for thousands of families, he said, “Mediterranean fish, due to its delicious flavour, is increasingly in demand worldwide.”
