“The United Kingdom was the 5th country to which the Fisheries and Animal Products sector exported the most in 2023 with 158 million dollars. The fishery sector accounts for almost 99 percent of our exports. As Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, we undertake 95 percent of the total exports of the sector to the United Kingdom. In 2023, 149.5 million dollars of our 149.6 million dollars exports to the United Kingdom were aquaculture products. We think that the Free Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom and Türkiye will have a positive impact on the exports of our sector,” he said.

Pointing out that table eggs should definitely be included in the Free Trade Agreement with the United Kingdom, which they consider as an important market for the export of Türkiye’s poultry products as well as the fishery sector, he explained, “Our problem with the United Kingdom is the approval of the health certificate by the other parties. Our General Directorate of Food Control has recently sent all the requested documents to the UK authorities and we are waiting for the finalisation. We believe that our exports to the UK will increase exponentially after the Free Trade Agreement.”

“We should see the United Kingdom as a Commonwealth Region with 15 countries. Every contact we will make with the United Kingdom will pave the way for large markets such as Canada,” he added…
