Attention to Turkish olive oil surges in distant countries!

Press release…

Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, announced the 11 percent spike in olive oil exports to consumer countries as an indication of the Turkish olive oil sector’s growing value-added and branded export potential. He highlighted the growing interest in Turkish olive oil in target markets, particularly in distant countries.

“98 percent of olive oil exports to consumer countries are packaged”

“We are determined to shape competition not only on price, but also on quality, sustainability and brand value,” Uygun said. “In this regard, we are taking important steps to ramp up the export of packaged and value-added products. We aim to reach the end consumer directly with branded products and strengthen the value chain of our products. While packaged olive oil accounts for 63 percent of Türkiye’s total olive oil exports, our exports of packaged olive oil to consumer countries reach 98 percent.”

“We request a minimum 60,000-tonne EU quota for Turkish olive oil”

Emphasizing that the high customs duties imposed by the EU on olive oil exports from Türkiye to the European Union are weakening the competitiveness of the Turkish olive oil sector, he noted, “Türkiye should be granted the same advantage of zero customs duties on olive oil exports to the EU as countries like Morocco and Tunisia.

Pointing out that they expect Turkish olive oil to be a priority in the Customs Union Agreement, which is currently being updated, he added, “We are requesting a duty-free quota allocation of at least 60,000 tonnes from the EU. Similarly, considering our olives and olive oil as strategic products in the Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the United Kingdom will strengthen our position in this important market.”
