Olive oil exporters to focus on distant markets…

Press release…

Türkiye, which ranked second in the world with an olive oil yield of 475 thousand tonnes in the 2024/25 season when olive oil yields peaked worldwide, focused on markets such as the USA, China, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Australia in order to turn the historical yield into added value.

Emre Uygun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), said they are planning international promotional activities in the 2024/2025 season in line with the Ministry of Trade’s ‘Distant Markets Strategy’.

Speaking at the ordinary financial general assembly meeting of EZZİB for 2024 at the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, Uygun said: “We participated in the Fine Food Australia Fair in Australia with an info stand and held a sectoral trade delegation with the participation of 11 companies simultaneously with the fair. 12 companies took part in the sectoral trade delegation we organised simultaneously with the Natural Products Expo West Fair in the USA in March 2025. We also successfully represented our country at the world’s leading fairs such as the Summer Fancy Food Show in the USA, Foodex in Japan and the International Import Fair in China. In these organisations, we had the opportunity to introduce Turkish olives and olive oil to the world and established important business contacts. We aim to continue these activities by expanding them further in the coming period. In June, we will participate in the 18th China Edible Oil Expo Fair to be held in Guangzhou, China with an info stand. Between 8-13 September 2025, we are planning a new sectoral trade delegation organisation to Toronto, Canada.”

“We had a difficult season due to the ban on bulk olive oil exports”

Stating that they had a difficult season due to the ban on bulk olive oil exports in the 2023/24 season, Uygun continued as follows; “After the ban on bulk olive oil exports, olive oil exports in the 2023/24 season decreased by 52 percent on quantity basis from 146 thousand tonnes to 70 thousand tonnes. Our olive oil exports decreased by 29 percent in terms of amount to 506 million dollars. While our average export price surged by 48 percent to 7.16 dollars, 80 percent of our exports were packaged.”
